The Cougars, Robotics Team
Hot Bots
How did Clintonville Academy's robotics team, the Cougars, come to rank 3rd in the world after a challenging year-long competition?
Talent, ingenuity and commitment all were
key — as well as teamwork from members
Joey Diamond, Ginnie Brannaman, Jacob Miller and Philip Sing. Coaches Jamie Diamond and Judith Radin are Joey's parents.
The Cougars tackled the research, testing and engineering necessary to build and program robots and solve a real-world problem as part of the FIRST Lego League (FLL) competitions. Formed in 2007, the Cougars qualified to attend the state competition in their first year, took second place at state competition in 2009 and were Ohio champions in 2010. During that season, 14,600 teams competed in the FLL, 8,400 in the U.S. and Canada. Approximately half of a percent (1 out of 200 on average, 1 out of 282 in Ohio) qualified to attend the world competition, where the Cougars took third place.

Though some members have graduated from CA, the Cougars continue to compete. Their latest efforts also can be seen on YouTube at this link.
On January 28, 2012, the Clintonville Academy robotics team took 1st place in a regional competition against teams from four states. The CA team is ranked number 3 in the country out of 2,000 teams. On February 18, they compete in the state championship in Cincinnati. Go Cougars!
