Welcome to First Grade at Clintonville Academy! All students this year seem to be eager to learn and explore their academic world. You can be an integral part of this exciting world by asking your child about school, looking at and discussing the papers they bring home, making sure their homework is completed and helping them read and study. In our busy, complicated lives, the most precious moments are those we spend with our children. If you have any questions or concerns about anything, please don't hesitate to call me.

We have a busy daily schedule, but the students adapt quickly. The subjects I teach are Unified Language Arts (including Reading, Spelling, Vocabulary, Phonics, Writing, Grammar and English), Handwriting, Math, Social Studies and Science. The Fist Grade also participates in Library, Gym, Spanish or French, Art, Music and Computer.

The grades for Reading, Oral and Written Expression, Spelling, Math, Social Studies, Science and Foreign Language will be:
A Excellent
B Good
C Average
D Below Average
F Failing

The grades for all other subjects are:
O Outstanding
S Satisfactory
I Improvement Shown
N Needs Improvement

The symbols for plus, check, and minus can be used with the letter grade to indicate strong, appropriate or weak development. Report cards are given every ten weeks. Interim reports are mailed to you five weeks into the grading period if work is less than satisfactory, or if there are behavior concerns.
