3RD GRADE MATHEMATICS
The series we will use this year is:
MATH - Scott Foresman-Addison Wesley
This is a hands-on approach to math, with emphasis on learning the process behind each operation. Each chapter involves the use of manipulatives, individual & group work, daily problem solving, as well as practice in basic facts.
Connections are made to literature, as well as math in everyday life. Problem solving involves critical and visual thinking skills.
Materials to be covered are:
- Geometry
- Measurement
- Data, graphs
- Place value
- Addition - 2,3, & 4 digits
- Subtraction - 2,3,& 4 digits
- Multiplication
- Division
- Fractions
- Probability
Time tests, quizzes, and daily drills will be given often to keep up on basic facts and to check progress on the material covered.
Writing in math will be a big focus. Students will be asked to explain how to solve various problems using words and pictures.
