Third Grade
LANGUAGE ARTS PROGRAM
The language arts program will involve all four language process components (listening, speaking, reading, and writing). The students will participate in a variety of meaningful experiences involving the four components on a daily basis.
A variety of reading experiences will be provided with quality children's literature as the focus of instruction.

- SSR (sustained silent reading)
- Book Discussions
- Author Studies
- Literature Extension Activities
Students will be given a variety of opportunities to write. Many of their writing experiences will include:
- Quick Writes
- Guided Writing Activities
- Literature Responses
- Reading/Writing Times
- Journals & Research logs
- Projects & Reports
The students will actively participate in the writing process, as well as edit and evaluate their own work.
Phonics, grammar and daily editing practice will be incorporated into the program on a weekly basis.
** Book Sharing - students will be given a booksharing activity to compete each month. Guidelines and suggestions will be sent home weeks before the booksharing is due. Reminders will be posted in the Cougar Courier before it's due.
