KINDERGARTEN CURRICULUM
Clintonville Academy has a developmentally appropriate kindergarten curriculum. It is designed to match and support the process of maturation. Gradually a structured approach is introduced. This involves a curriculum that is explorative and focused on specific directions and expected outcomes.
The mathematics curriculum includes work with blocks, cubes, geo boards, and tanograms, which can be sorted, counted and classified in ways that provide an understanding of mathematical concepts. The "calendar" is used to approach the concept of number recognition and place value. We will learn the meaning of addition and subtraction through the use of manipulatives. Time and money will also be introduced.
Clintonville Academy Kindergarten combines a phonetic and a "whole language" approach to teach language arts. It includes reading, writing, listening, and speaking in an integrated way.
Our handwriting curriculum is working with D'Nealian letters. To be successful we will work on eye-hand coordination, a sense of left-to-right and top-to-bottom progression, and an ability to follow a line along a page with focused eyes.
Themes and field trips will tie together a variety of Social Studies and Science curriculum concepts.
